The collection consists of petitions representing the efforts of the Athens Historical Society, the Society for the Preservation of Old Athens, and concerned citizens, to prevent the commercial zoning of Milledge Avenue from Broad Street north to Reese Street. There are several hundred names signed to newspaper clippings, mimeographed petition sheets and a few letters, all protesting the re-zoning of "one of the South's best architectural assets."
